Ensemble Voyagers’ Latest Production “El Cant Dels Ocells” (The Song Of The Birds) Makes The Listeners Listen To It Even More!

Ensemble Voyagers is an open ensemble created by Daniele Montagner which explores the musical roots of Western Civilizations and infuses their sound with contemporary tonality.

Ivrea, Italy – The Ensemble Voyagers created by Daniele Montagner is an “open” ensemble dedicated to the exploration of musical jewels ranging from the roots of Western civilization to the traditions of non-European cultures, passing through medieval music to the present day. With the use of original musical instruments or made according to the organology in vogue, a sound journey is undertaken through the aesthetics that has represented and continues to represent the history of humanity, its roots and its evolution.

The Ensemble Voyagers stems from Daniele’s idea of constituting an “open” musical group, dedicated to exploration without hesitation and prejudice of musical jewels ranging from the roots of Western civilization to the traditions of non-European cultures, passing through medieval music up to the present day. It was the famous cellist Pau Casals (1876-1973) who revived and made famous one of the melodies that make up the song that Daniele Montagner elaborated and orchestrated for Qambus, Oud, medieval flautino, soloist voices and choir respecting and enhancing the medieval nature and the various cultural influences present in the musical text. It is a very delicate and poignant song, a celebration of Life, of Peace, of Love. The great passion of Daniele Montagner and his colleagues for medieval music developed into creations inspired by Dante Alighieri, “Two sonnets by Dante”, the result of the compositional skill of Paolo Coggiola presented in concert at the Filodrammatici Theater in Milan. With the penetrating and ethereal voice of Aki Osada, the piece unfolds around the unstoppable progression of medieval flute, medieval lute, harmonium and percussion. A pure aural experience!

Ensemble Voyagers released Two Songs from Okinawa which is the ensemble album of the production. It is a taste of Eastern Asia reinvented by classically inspired world-class artists. Subsequently Daniele Montagner and his collective of sensationally archaic, classically styled musicians who make up Ensemble Voyagers have created yet another stunning masterpiece with their reinvention of Chanson Balladée which is a Renaissance-inspired composition by the Italian composer Riccardo Antonino Luciani.

Ensemble Voyagers are all set on ideas about what Christmas music should be about, which is their latest release “El Cant dels Ocells”. It is a hauntingly atmospheric offering of traditional music which won´t fail to captivate you through the mesmeric vocals accompanying the acoustic instrumentals through the tentative yet cinematic progression. El Cant dels Ocells is a traditional Catalan Christmas song and a lullaby which celebrates the birth of Jesus. While it’s slightly more pious than your average Christmas single, it’s infinitely more authentic.

We live in a world and in a time of multiple and heterogeneous musical traditions: it is therefore important to know the history to root the future. There is no univocal direction towards the future: there are a plurality of historical and temporal ramifications that go both towards the past and towards the future and that branch out into the present. There is an “open” time, multiple and heterogeneous.

The “tonal” and temporal center of each moment is each of us, with our own awareness and perception. An Ensemble without borders was therefore needed because there are no frontiers in music. Music is dialogue and confrontation and has the ability to combine minds and emotions without fanaticism, helping to renew one’s identity. It is also vital to get out of academicism with an overly formal and almost ritualistic flavor that mainly engulfs Western European culture.
