Berneen Cereska Climbs The Music Week Charts With Her Summer Hit ‘Lockdown’

South African born, Qatar Based Pop Sensation Berneen Cereska is climbing the Music Week Charts at #26 on the Commercial Club Pop Charts, with her summer hit Lockdown.

After a musical hiatus since 2012, Berneen is back as strong as ever and with a new determined passion to spread her music not only to her fanbase in South Africa, but also the world. Lockdown is

contagious, melodic and hook driven – the perfect addition to your summer playlist.

Although not one to follow the latest trends but rather to hone her own sound, Berneen is heavily influenced by artists the likes of Alliyah, Britney Spears, Pharrell Williams, Gwen Stefani, Destiny’s Child, Spice Girls, Kanye West, to name a few.

The single ‘Lockdown’ (written by Berneen) was recorded in Qatar, music production by Berneen & Lee Liyanage, with Lee as the lead producer.  Berneen remembers – “It was a crazy week. We were both extremely busy and I recorded the vocals at like 3am after going about 4 days with a total of 6 hours sleep!!! I was in zombie mode!!!! It was mastered in New York by Michael Cushion Jr.

When asking Berneen about the meaning and inspiration behind Lockdown, she notes –

Lockdown was written years ago. It was inspired by that desperation one feels when they know they are losing that one person who they just can’t bear to lose. How we are sometimes irresponsible with love when it comes to the most important people in our lives. The confusion and questions that one tends to ask themselves during a breakup. It’s also about the hope of love being able to withstand any test and always finding its way back to its rightful place.

Standout Lyrics-  “Love is a beast – Untamable”    “Love is a High – Insatiable”

Although not based in South Africa anymore, Berneen still considers South Africa her home. “I am always visiting SA because my family is still there. I left SA when I was 18 so I’ve spent almost half my life out of the country. No matter how much I change, I can’t change the fact that I am a South African and this is my home. It’s in my blood and this is my country. I feel it’s necessary and long over-due that I try to bring my music home. I want to do this for myself and for the people in SA that have believed in me and supported me from day 1”.

Inspired by trying to make sense out of the everyday madness of living, Berneen is expressing herself in the only way she knows best – through music and hopes to inspire and empower people to follow their dreams.  Lockdown is the fruit of a very long journey and the beginning steps to her new future.

If this doesn’t get you on the dancefloor and bustling at the Pool parties, then you’re tuned to the wrong channel.
